WEEK SEVEN REFLECTION (14th - 18th October)

WEEK SEVEN REFLECTION (14th - 18th October)

During the seventh week of EDET, we were introduced to the ASSURE Model.
Analyze Learners
State Objectives
Select Methods, Media and Materials
Utilize Media and Materials
Require Learner Participants
Evaluate and Revise

Analyze learners. The material(s) should suite the different types of learners. Teachers should be able to select suitable strategies to meet their objectives. They can be analyzed with their characteristics such as their age, grade, ethnicity etc.

State Objectives. The next procedure apart of the ASSURE model is State the Objectives. The object should be slated as what the learner will do as the result of instructions. Objectives should always be centered around students and not teachers.

Select Methods, Media and Materials. This connects the two previous parts together. This can be done once the materials are selected, creating new materials or modified existing materials.

Utilize Media and Materials . Before the lesson, the materials should be previewed since the materials needs to be decided as to how they will be used to avoid tribulations.

Require Learner Participants. This  component allows the students to par take in the lesson.

Evaluate and Revise. Based on the material(s), it needs to be evaluated. Such questions are asked such as Did the learners met the objective criteria?  Did the material(s) give a better understanding of the lesson?

The class participated in an assignment, which involves creating a lesson plan in groups using the ASSURE Model. After completing the ASSURE Model, a video  was also created that corresponds to the topic using Windows Movie Maker.

My group's lesson plan was based on "Animals and their Habitat." The lesson plan was created as a group followed by a short movie which showcases twelve (12) different types of animals . Each student was then asked to do an individual lesson plan  following the same methods.

WEEK EIGHT REFLECTION (21ST - 25TH OCTOBER)

WEEK EIGHT REFLECTION (21ST - 25TH OCTOBER)

Word Processor and Spreadsheet

According to ask.com, Word Processor is a computer software that enables a user to make, format, edit, save, and retrieve documents. Microsoft Word, WordPerfect, AppleWorks, and OpenOffice are just a few examples of Word Processor software however Microsoft Word and WordPerfect are the two most popular word processor softwares. These software plays a crucial part of a teacher's life since it is use like salt to flavor a pot. Creating the class schedule, typing out exams and preparing a lesson plan are just some ways a teacher can/have use Word Processor. Students who write using word processor can easily outline then expand their ideas; request and consider grammar or spelling suggestions; revise as many times as necessary before printing; and even submit their electronic work to their teacher for edits.

Spreadsheet is a computer software which has a document that stores data in grid of horizontal rows and vertical columns. Microsoft Excel is another name given to spreadsheet. This software plays a crucial part of a teacher's life since it is use like sugar to sweeten tea/juice. Spreadsheets can also be helpful in tracking a student's progress as in terms and year progress. A teacher may use a spreadsheet to calculate the overall grade for a student's work, where several exams calculating the overall grade. This saves a lot of time that could have been used in calculations. Commonly spreadsheets are used to hold the grades from examinations in percentage form. A student can use spreadsheet the same way to keep accurate grades. Another way a teacher can use spreadsheet within the classroom is to create an attendance sheet for students within the classroom.

I then go miserably enough to the typewriter and I edit with tiny little pen scribbles until you can't read it anymore. And then, I put it into a word processor.

WEEK SIX REFLECTION

WEEK SIX REFLECTION (7th - 11th October)

What is a Podcast?

Portable
On
Demand
broadCAST

A podcast is a type of digital media consisting audios, videos, portable document format (PDF) on the web. A podcast is like a radio.

Within the classroom, the usage of podcast is unlimited. Teachers can use a podcast to connect with their students as a class newsletter announcing upcoming events and other pertinent information.

Teachers can use a podcast to give step by step instructions in Compositions lessons on How to make..... Students should now be able to write better Compositions.

Presenting oral presentations is another way a podcast can be used in the classroom. This will give both teachers and students the opportunity to make up for extra classes during the school year. Students can also use this opportunity to interact with the teacher on weak subject areas.

Students can share audio documents with their classmates using podcast which should also improve students learning and thinking during and after lessons.

In the event a student is absent from school one day, his/her classmates can record the lesson using podcast and then share the document with the absent child. This way, the child would not left behind in the lesson since he can access the lesson anywhere.

Using a podcast is a new initiative for me! Before this software was introduced to me I begin to wonder. Why do I need to know about podcast? How can I use a podcast? Where am I going to use a podcast and to whom I am going to use podcast with? After the lesson with Mrs. Greene and Mrs. Marsh-Roberts these questions were answered and I now appreciate Podcast and its usage. Looking forward to continue this journey with EDET and Mrs. T. Marsh Roberts!

WEEK FIVE REFLECTION (30th September - 4th October)

During the fifth week of EDET, we were introduce to new storage software such as Google drive and Bropbox. Also during the week, we were exposed to a BLOG: Better Listen On Google. A blog is a diary on a website which allow users to frequently update their journal. There are three (3) easy steps one should follow in creating a blog: "ARE"! Access your gmail account, Register a domain name and Enter the required information. To begin this process, the user must have a gmail account. The domain name is a way which  allows the user to crate their blog name since naming the blog is an important aspect of blog branding: eg. techluv.blogspot.com. The required information is basically what you will post on your new blog.

Google Drive
Google Drive is a Cloud Storage Service which is powered by Google.  Using Google Drive, users can easily store files such as photos, documents or videos and can access them from any devices such as a smartphone, tablet, PC or ipad. These documents travel wherever the user travels. The only restriction the user may have in  accessing these files is no internet connection.

Dropbox
Dropbox is a  program that allows users to easily sync personal files such as photos, documents or videos  between computers. It works on all operating stems and requires an Internet connection.

The skills discussed during week five lesson are new to me since I've only heard IT Professionals using these  terms. I am now able to sharpen my sword to fight the battle of Technology.  Looking forward to continue this journey with EDET and Mrs. T. Marsh Roberts!

WEEK TWO REFLECTION:  (9th - 13th September, 2013)

During the second week of EDET with Mrs. T. Marsh-Roberts, the topic: Learning Concepts were discussed! There are four types of Learning Concepts we dealt with: Cognitive, Behaviorism, Constructivism and Socio-emotional. After learning theses concepts, we had to create a Power Point Presentation. The definition of learning and a picture of how our classroom would look like (in the future) were two of the slides added to our presentation. This presentation also allowed us to connect the projector to our laptops and projecting our work! Base on the presentations, we were able to classify various terms into three headings! Looking forward to continue this journey with EDET and Mrs. T. Marsh Roberts!

WEEK ONE REFLECTION:  (2nd - 5th September, 2013)

During the first week of EDET with Mrs. T. Marsh-Roberts, my memory was refreshed about Information Technology in Secondary Education. Education Technology is the implementation of technology to enhance learning. Technology can be in various forms of devices such as computers, laptops, smart phone, tablets and more! Also, I learnt the various ways in which education technology can be used to improve learning within the classroom! Looking forward to continue this journey with EDET and Mrs. T. Marsh Roberts!
